"Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.” Jeremiah 17:14 ESV
The painting depicts a single sunflower emerging triumphantly from the ground, embodying new life and renewal. Its leaves stretch upwards in praise to God. Surrounding the sunflower, the sky is adorned with radiant circles of white and yellow, symbolizing divine light and the warmth of God's love. On the ground, circles in various shades of green represent new seeds and the promise of growth and renewal.
The sunflower serves as a powerful symbol of healing through God's love and the hope and promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. This visual representation captures the essence of healing—whether it be spiritual, physical, emotional, or mental. Through Christ, we find our healing.
Inspiration and Personal Story: This painting draws inspiration from Jeremiah 17:14 (ESV): "Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise." It reflects the artist's personal journey of healing and a touching story of friendship with Hannah.
On Hannah’s birthday in 2019, during a celebratory luncheon, the artist felt a divine prompting to buy sunflowers for Hannah. Unbeknownst to the artist, sunflowers were deeply significant to Hannah, as they were the favorite flower of a dear friend who had passed away the previous fall. This friend, whose birthday was just a day apart from Hannah's, was greatly missed. The sunflowers, thus, became a symbol of remembrance and healing. That day became a profound moment of celebration and remembrance, shared with our heavenly Father. It was a testament to God's intimate knowledge of our needs and His loving provision. To be absent in the physical body is to be present with Christ Jesus. Hannah was healed in the fall of 2022 through graduating this physical life to be with Christ Jesus. Both Hannah and her best friend, now healed and whole, are forever in the presence of Christ, embodying the ultimate healing and eternal life promised through Jesus. The sunflower in the painting stands as a tribute to this story of love, healing, and eternal friendship, capturing the beauty of God's care and the healing always found in His presence.
